The shape of the cosmos

In ancient Greek philosophy, particularly among the Pythagoreans, geometric shapes were regarded as sacred symbols revealing deeper truths about the universe. The dodecahedron was one of the five Platonic solids. While Plato, in his Timaeus, assigned the tetrahedron, cube, octahedron and icosahedron to the four classical elements, the dodecahedron was considered the shape representing the universe itself.

In later esoteric teachings it often symbolises the divine or the wholeness of being – the unity and perfection of the universe and a deeper order behind the visible world.
